Shopping to your values has never been so easy. An organization from the land down under has created an app that doesn’t only find products that suit your style, but also ones that suit your values.
Fashion apps have always simplified our shopping experience. They keep us connected to different brands and products that suit our style. But what about suiting our values? Well, the Good On You App gives you ethical brand options at your fingertips.
Ethical Consumers Australia, a registered charity, knew consumers were interested in supporting ethical brands but didn’t always know if the brands they loved followed ethical standards. The charity created the Good On You app, making it easier for consumers to shop to their values.
The Good on You App now counts over 1,000 fashion and accessory brands rated from one to five. Five being great and most transparent and one being brands to avoid. The app takes into account more than 50 certification schemes, standard systems, NGO rating projects and the brands’ public statements. The ratings are separated into three categories:
- People: Workers’ treatment across the supply chain. From a brand’s practices and policies on child labour, worker safety, supplier relationship to payment living wages.
- Planet: Effects on the environment. From a brand’s use and disposal of resources, energy usage, carbon emissions and impacts on water.
- Animals: Use of animals in fashion products. From a brand’s use of furs, down feathers, shearling to exotic animal skin and hair.
The app is also a way to discover new ethical brands. Users can search by brand, store or garment type. Users can also set preferences based on their values and Good On You will recommend brands based on those values. Not to mention you can also message brands to congratulate or urge them to do better. Talk about having power in the palm of your hand!
After taking over the fashion scene in Australia and New Zealand, the Good on You is ready for North America. Good on You launched an Indiegogo campaign to bring the app to North America this year. Let’s do good while looking good.
