The iOS app allows users to snap an image of a product they see in flyers and immediately purchase the item directly on the retailer’s website. Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, BuyCode Inc has developed this app using image recognition to better aid shoppers in buying the items they see in brochures.
CEO Avital Yachin says the company vision “is to allow purchasing of any product in any print ad,” with future goals of partnering with catalogs, magazines and billboards. Currently, Pounce can recognize products available online from retail partners that include Staples Inc., Target Corp., Toys “R” Us Inc. and Ace Hardware Corp.
Once an item has caught the user’s interest, Pounce scans the image and shows the price and shopping cost, after which users can directly purchase the product from the retailer. This free app is currently available in the U.S., with plans to soon expand to Canada and Europe.
