This week’s Eye on E-Commerce focuses on Zady, a shopping platform providing conscious consumers detailed information about the origins of products available onsite. Co-founded by Soraya Darabi of Foodspotting and Maxine Bédat of The Bootstrap Project, Zady allows shoppers to learn more about featured designers and gives background insight into the production process. The company offers products of the highest quality by focusing on craftsmanship and artisanship.
Products selected by the founders must meet criteria for sustainability including being locally sourced, handmade, using high quality raw goods, is environmentally conscious and made in the U.S. Not only is Zady concerned with where and how the merchandise is produced, so are the designers. Each brand is required to sign a contract giving full disclosure of the company’s location, manufacturing centers and raw material sources.
Five per cent of the proceeds from every sale goes to The Bootstrap Project, the company’s nonprofit partner, aiding to retain crafts and customs from around the globe. Nowadays with fast fashion as big business and an increasing scrutiny at business practices and ethics, Zady strives for transparency of production from beginning to end.
