This week’s installment of Eye on E-Commerce takes a closer look at famed auction house Christie’s and its ever growing e-commerce presence hosting online-only auctions. Known for operating at the highest end of luxury with elite clientele, Christie’s is coming to the masses through a series of online sales. The current sale running now through July 22, 2013, IN MY FASHION: The Suzy Menkes Collection, includes over 80 lots from the closet of the iconic fashion journalist.
British journalist Suzy Menkes has been the Fashion Editor for the International Herald Tribune since 1988 and also contributes to the New York Times. Dating back to her teenage years in the 1960s, Menkes has amassed quite the wardrobe over the decades with pieces being auctioned off online by Christie’s. The collection features an inspiring array of clothing and accessories by some of the most revered names in fashion, from: Ossie Clark and Emilio Pucci, to Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix.
The auction house’s e-commerce push continues with a summer jewels event highlighting the work of young designers. A previous sale of designer handbags and accessories selected by Christie’s Vintage Couture team included pieces from Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermès. As one of the top destinations for collectors of couture, costume, textiles and accessories, Christie’s reputation is secured offline. Next up- cornering the market online as well.
