After six years as creative director, British designer Emma Hill has decided to part ways with Mulberry, in a statement released today by Mulberry Group PLC.
Since joining Mulberry in 2007, Hill has been touted as the main person who brought the brand back into the luxury-fashion market. Known for its quirky, chic and eccentric British style, Hill created bags that were seen on the arms of the “it girls’ in town and fashion icons, one most notably being Alexa Chung. In fact, Hill created the ‘Alexa’ bag after her, which was also given the credit for bringing the brand’s fortunes around.
Citing differences with management in “creative and operational strategy,” Hill’s departure announcement only added to the declining shares of the company, with the news sending the shares down the most in two months.
Rumours are already afloat about Hill possibly joining Coach as creative director, the role that will soon be open due to Reed Krakoff’s departure in June 2014. According to the statement, the timing of her departure still needs to be finalized, but afterwards where would that leave the luxury-fashion brand?
