E-Commerce Beauty RoundUp: The Great Gatsby

By Jenny Geisman on April 26, 2013

The Great Gatsby is leading beauty trends, as flapper-girl bobs, smokey eyes and delicate Gold Coast-inspired fragrances are debuting, a la Daisy Buchanan. We at FASHIONOTES can’t get enough of this 20’s style and are here to tell you some tips to this seasons Hollywood look.

Tocca

The new scent from Tocca was crafted with the lively parties of the swinging 20’s in mind. The Eau de Parfum Liliana ($68) blends aromatic Italian bergamot with gardenia, white peony and sandalwood. The scent leaves behind memories of lush Long Island gardens and glorious sunsets of East and West Egg.

The fragrant Stella Profumo Veloce ($48) conjures up the rebellious days of a passionate Daisy Buchanan with its carefree and flirty scent featuring bitter orange, blood orange, white freesia, wild diamond orchids and spicy lily.

Boots

Recreate Carey Mulligan’s dangerously alluring Buchanan with the exclusive Great Gatsby-inspired makeup collection from Boots, No7 Deco Darling. Apply the mixture of golds and opaques highlighted in the No7 Deco Darling Eye Palette ($7) for a sophisticated, dramatic eye that puts a contemporary twist on 1920’s makeup.

Capture the creamy skin that only a naïve debutante flaunts with No7 Deco Darling Loose Powder Highlighter ($9). This light, loose powder will give your face, neck, décolletage and arms a luminous quality with a hint of Hollywood red-carpet glamour.

House of Fraser

Finish your Ms. Buchanan smoldering look with the Écriture de Chanel ($39) automatic liquid eyeliner in Noir. The fluid formula allows for precision and glides on smooth and evenly.

Mulligan’s milky aristocratic skin highlights not only her character’s eyes, but also her kissable lips. We found that the Giorgio Armani Rouge Sheer Lipstick ($38) in 302 (red) completes the look and the exquisite packaging goes with the upper-class, cultured appearance.

Bluemercury

Flapper-girl bobs are popping up all over the world and recreating those 20’s-inspired waves and curls begins with Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil ($48). Restoring hair to a more virgin-like state, the Gold Lust Hair Oil is luxurious and brings a light scent that infuses a spring meadow bouquet of jasmine, edelweiss flower, lychee, sandalwood, cassis and bergamot. The oil will repair damage and control frizz.

Crafting Daisy Buchanan’s perfectly twisted curls use Oribe Rock Hard Gel ($36), which is a cream gel offering intense hold to any style. In addition, the product contains light-reflecting properties to give hair a golden essence. Once waves are set, spray lightly with Oribe Soft Lacquer Hair Spray ($33) to keep flyaways and frizzies at bay.

Finishing Touches

As the The Great Gatsby’s cast of characters inspires the beauty world, it is hard for jewelry designers to ignore this opulent and timeless era.

Splurge: Mulligan’s ingénue is no stranger to fine jewelry and Tiffany & Co. has taken that notion to create a collection inspired by the classic story. The Great Gatsby Collection Daisy Hand Ornament ($75,000) is an extravagant piece featuring an archival daisy motif of diamonds in platinum accented with pearls.

The Ziegfeld Collection Pearl Ring ($475) gleams with lavish pearls, as does the luminous Ziegfeld Collection Pearl Tassel Necklace ($1,200).

Budget: You can still portray the distinctiveness of The Great Gatsby with Unique Vintage’s Silver Metal Rhinestone Art Deco Bracelet ($14), Vintage Inspired Rings by Ollipop-Amazonite and Crystal Windflower Ring ($31) and Turquoise 26″ Antiqued Gold Metal Agate Tassel Necklace ($27.50).
