Anthropologie has proven that they know how to do social media well and their Tumblr page is no exception. The name of their Tumblr page is Etymologie (substituting ‘ie’ for ‘y’), which is defined as, “the study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history.” Anthropologie has been able to take the definition of etymologie and create a theme around, which a truly inspirational Tumblr page has been built.
Etymologie focuses on a weekly word, which is suggested by followers and then chosen by staff. Each Monday a word is chosen and throughout the week posts of what the word means, in the eyes of Anthropologie, are posted. For example, this week the word is “Hat.” Thus far, there is a range of pictures posted with people in hat’s, but posts are not limited to just pictures; poems, videos, music and paintings are all welcomed. Basically, anything that is inspired by the word “Hat” and still represents Anthropologies culture.
In addition to the weekly word posts, Etymologie also includes a “Glossary” section, which holds an archive of past words used and their definitions. There is also a “What We’re Reading” section, which is a list of the brand’s favorite Tumblr pages, updated monthly.
Anthropologie has been able to create a strong brand name for themselves by thinking creatively and outside the box. Their social media pages are an extension of that ingenious thinking and that is why Anthropologie is our Top Tumblr this week.
