Alexander Wang and tech heavy-weight Samsung are joining forces to create a limited-edition bag, inspired by photographers, stylists and friends of the designer.
So, where does Samsung come in? The photographs and sketches used to design the bag will come directly from Samsung’s Galaxy Note II. The individuals Wang contracted to take photographs will do so exclusively from this mobile device. The inventive collaboration will create a milestone for both Wang and Samsung; it’s a way to collaborate technology and style through a popular handheld device.
“I am most inspired from my everyday life and the people that surround me, so the idea of a co-creation with the people that I admire and respect the most is very exciting,” says Wang, to WWD. “This collaboration represents a new way that technology and style can come together. And, through a concerted effort, I am happy to be a part of supporting such a great charity as ArtStart that embraces creativity and art in a way that can change lives.”
The bag will be available summer 2013 at select Alexander Wang boutiques and through the brand’s e-commerce site. All proceeds from this tech-savvy collaboration will be donated to ArtStart, a New York City charity that aims to aide the care and development of at-risk children.
It’s safe to say that this will be the first fashion/tech collaboration of many for Wang! Clearly, technology has breached its way into our closets and onto our totes!
