E-Commerce Beauty RoundUp: Best Dry Shampoos

By Jenny Geisman on December 7, 2012

Walking out of the salon perfectly coiffed is one thing, but keeping that smooth-as-glass blow out is entirely another story. With holiday parties abound, going from one festivity to the next doesn’t give you much time to re-do the ‘do, especially when your party lasts until the wee hours of the morning. When you think of using dry shampoos, visions of powdered bouffants a la Marie Antoinette are front and center. The hair care industry has ditched the powdery effects and our fav brands have created a whole new crop of dry shampoos that won’t flatten your style.

Birchbox

If your nose hasn’t had the luxury of Oribe’s heavenly scent, you are in for an all-day treat when you try the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($39). Coined as the “brilliant alternative to dry shampoo,” the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray still absorbs oily locks and revives volume. But, it’s the invisible formula that will keep you spending the big bucks on this one. The fragrance of Lulu Organics® Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder ($30) is equally divine and just a sprinkle will revive hair and preserve your blow dry. The key to not looking like Ms. Antoinette is once you apply the product, brush hair immediately so that the powder absorbs oils and distributes from roots to ends. For some of us beauty junkies, the blowPro Faux Dry Shampoo ($20) is a new product endeavor and one you’ll want to test drive. The blowPro Faux Dry Shampoo’s super-fine powder is made from micronized cornstarch and natural proteins that quickly suck up oil without producing rigid or snow fairy-like tresses.

Sephora

Sephora is definitely up there on the beauty bible short list and you know if it’s on the store’s website, the product is a must-try. We were very curious about the Bumble and bumble Brown Hair Powder ($35) and, if you’re a brunette, this one is for you. The tinted dry shampoo will defend chocolate, mahogany and chestnut hair colors from the wear and tear of holiday partying. The dry shampoo lures excess oil into oblivion and adds volume. A super-bonus about this product is that the color will blend in those nasty grays until your next color. Anything deposited onto your scalp can make a beauty girl weary of its contents. Not with the Sachajuan Professional Haircare dry shampoo ($32). Formulated without parabans, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates or GMOs, this cleansing, powder-based spray makes your hair feel and look fresh in between washing and styling. In addition, you won’t see that shellac-looking film as this dry shampoo gives your hair a matte finish.

Selfridges

On the other side of the pond, our go-to beauty, one-stop shop is Selfridges. It is Known for offering international beauty mavens an eclectic array of elite and coveted beauty brands. Selfridges swears by: Hershesons Batiste dry shampoo ($8.75 in the U.S.), Percy and Reed No–Fuss Fabulousness Dry Shampoo ($19 in the U.S.) and Philip B Russian Amber Imperial dry shampoo ($40 in the U.S.). Hershesons Batiste dry shampoo is all about creating volume and is an ideal product for use on extensions. For a true “just styled” look after a full night of kicking up your heels, try the Percy and Reed No-Fuss Fabulousness Dry Shampoo. The unique formulation includes ingredients that are naturally in your hair composition. Not only does it give you that “Gee, you look terrific!” style, but it will also work to improve and strengthen your luscious locks. A luxurious twist on the science of dry shampoo is the Philip B Russian Amber Imperial dry shampoo. It has a super-lightweight formula that will coif your hair into regal height without forfeiting shine.
