Airport body scanners? Not cool. But a body scanner that can size us up, and create a custom-made jeans? That may just twist our arm into stepping into the booth.
Acustom Apparel is the latest company to enter the fashion tech world. Their mission is to create custom-fit clothing for everyone: big, tall or small with the help of body scanning technology.
The idea is that everyone should have clothing fit them, instead of trying to squeeze into what’s on the rack. Currently the company offers custom-fit jeans for women and suits for men with plans to expand their offerings soon.
There is no measuring tape in sight with this bespoke digital scanner. The scanner itself uses everyday lightbulbs like the ones you’d find in your home. When a client steps into the scanner, the lights flash for 30 seconds, and the computer tallies the 200,000 unique impressions needed to create a tailored look.
Bespoke has been around forever, but the cost factor means it’s not accessible for everyone. A $1000 traditional bespoke piece will cost around $200 with the digital bespoke model. And once your scanned, you’re able to go online to order and reorder as many times as you like.
Right now, the scanner is available at Project Pop Up in NYC and within the Acustom Apparel store itself. We’re hoping that this company continues to grow, and we’ll be able to see more signature pieces out there.
