The Price of Fashion Blogging: By The Numbers

By Caitlin Finley on August 6, 2012

It’s easy to be inspired by successful bloggers – Man Repeller, Glamourai, you name it – but before you start launching your own platform, it’s a good idea to get familiar with what kind of finances you’re looking at. Based on the article by Independent Fashion Bloggers, here’s a look at the big purchases that you’ll need in order to make your blog it’s very best.

Computer: $749

This is the big ticket item, but lucky for us it is definitely worth the money. You’ll be able to blog from your own home and not from a library or a crowded internet cafe. Laptops, the more popular choice, go from the low $500 to over $2000 if you’re looking for something fancy.

Internet Connection $45/month

If you bought the computer, it would make sense to buy the Internet. This way you can fix your posts, set up your site, and surf for new inspirations.

Smartphone $189 + Data

Let’s be honest – we all need Instagram. Plus, with a smartphone you can check for updates and new stories right from your phone!

Custom URL $12.99 per year

The first step to getting your site is picking it’s name/ Will you choose something unique and personal, or catchy? It’s totally up to you. A good site to buy a custom URL is GoDaddy.com.

Camera $349

Once you become a blogger, you and your camera will basically be conjoined. Some of the most popular choices are the Canon Rebel and the Nikon Coolpix. You can get cheap point-and-shoot cameras for just over $100, but the more you spend the better the quality – and the better your street style shots.

Business Cards $19

This is an optional purchase, because not all fashion bloggers choose to do any of their meeting in public. You may be able to rely on a really personal email signature, but nothing screams sophisticated like a snazzy new pack of business cards.

So what are we looking at near the end of the day?

Total: $1,363.99
