We caught up with the lovely Erika Marie of Fashion Chalet to get her thoughts on fashion memories, blogging and what inspires her the most.
Creating Fashion Chalet as a way of sharing her personal style and connecting with those who share her interests, Erika believes that clothing isn’t just to be worn, but is an expression of who you are. This connection with clothing runs deep, as she shares with her readers on Fashion Chalet that one of her fondest memories is of going back to school shopping with her Mom and, even at age 4, knowing how to recognize trends and keep up with them.
When it comes to her own style today, Erika describes her sense of style as “A bit bohemian, usually classic and romantic,” with Old Hollywood movies to thank for her inspiration. Her thoughts on how social media and bloggers seem to be the source for inspiration these days: “I find myself much more inspired by fashion bloggers than celebrities. Real girls with real style and ideas versus celebrities dressing head to toe in free gifting.”
Of course, as a fellow fashion blogger, Erika has to stay on top of her blogging A-game via social media requisites like her Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterset and Lookbook.nu accounts. But Erika takes her online presence one step further by offering her followers another way to connect with her and catch glimpses of her personal style – Erika uses VideofyMe to upload videos of her outfits, dubbing these her “outfits in motion.” It sure beats scrolling through photo after photo, and we get a better sense of her personal tastes since each video is set to music of her choosing.
Lastly, when we asked her if she thought the internet and social media has made fashion more accessible, she replied excitedly : “Yes, [it's] easier and more fun, not to mention [it's] faster turn around rate!”
