Mary Huang and Jenna Fizel are the designer-duo behind Continuum Fashion, an app that allows users to make garments printed with their own photos and patterns.
In an interview with Mashable, the self dubbed “part-fashion-label-part-experimental-design-lab” revealed the details three of their most innovative design projects, which are all enabled by innovative 3D printing technology:
1. D.dress
Continuum’s first design project is titled the D.dress; an infinite user-generated little black dress collection. The app allows you to draw a dress in any shape or size you wish, which is then turned into a digital 3D model. The final design is then exported to a 3D printer, with your exact measurements, where a laser cutter cuts the fabric to be sewn into the dress itself. At the end of the whole process you have your very own, self designed little black dress.
2. N12
Their second design project is the N12 bikini, which is the world’s first ready-to-wear, completely 3D-printed article of clothing. The fabric used for the swimwear is called “Nylon 12″, which has the ability to be transformed into various different shapes and styles (rendering the use of a needle and thread completely unnecessary). According to the Continuum website, the N12 represents the beginning of what is possible for fashion with the future of 3D printing.
3. CONSTRVCT
The third and final project from Continuum is also the most recent, and actually still in the process of gathering funding. The idea behind CONSTRVCT is a crowd-sourced fashion collection where users are able to choose every aspect of their items. In other words, all items produced through CONSTRVCT are unique and made-to-order. An interesting perk is being your own designer, and uploading your favorite image to print onto the fabric of your clothing design.
