Alternative Apparel recently announced their creative collaboration with Olivia Wilde for a limited-edition messenger bag! Launching for Summer 2012, the bag was designed by the actress and her friend Barbara Burchfield, along with Alternative’s Accessories Director, Mollie Culligan.
So what makes this bag so amazing besides the fact that it’s Alternative Apparel and designed by Olivia Wilde? Well, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Academy for Peace and Justice; a secondary school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Funded by Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis’s charity, Artists for Peace and Justice, the school’s education program is so deserving of the donation.
Wilde is known for her activist endeavors and has expressed her desire to combine both conscious commerce with her love for fashion. By the looks of this project, it seems like she’s finally found a way to do just that! When asked why she chose to work with Alternative Apparel, Wilde replied, because “I wear their sweatshirts every day and live in their maxi dresses. And they’re good people!”
After making multiple trips to Haiti, Olivia began to work closely with Mollie and Barbara to design the rugged-chic, army canvas messenger bag. The unisex bag can actually be converted into either a backpack or cross body bag and features leather trim, antique brass hardware and the official stamp for the Academy For Peace and Justice.
Without a doubt this item is a great way to accessorize your outfit and help an underprivileged child get the education they deserve. Check out ShopBop to grab a limited-edition bag of your own!
