Imagine a world where in 5 minutes your laptop or iPad scours the web for the perfect head to toe outfit, all the while ensuring it will compliment your current wardrobe. When we heard about the numerous online businesses which are trying to do just that (or a version like it), we couldn’t help but hope it was true.
Personal shopping sites are now trying to use ‘machine learning algorithms’ to roundup lists of sophisticated personalized selections that speak to your style, physique and personal shopping habits. Sound familiar? That’s essentially the concept Chapters started years ago when it started sending subscribers lists of suggested books, similar to their previous purchases.
An example of this phenomenon is Feyt. Launching fully in September, the site aims to combine fashion knowledge and ‘machine learning’, to offer styling recommendations. Feyt’s founder, Eleanor Ylvisaker truly believes in the concept.
“Our focus is shifting shoppers from search-based purchases to suggestion-based purchases,” said Ylvisaker. “When the site launches in full we will combine algorithmic technology with real style expertise to offer customized shopping recommendations for each individual user. We think of ourselves as the next generation of luxury e-commerce.”
Only time will tell if suggested-based shopping is truly a possibility. Hopefully it is, because it would make shopping that much more fun.
