Holy jeez does the time fly! World MasterCard Fashion Week (referred to as Toronto Fashion Week from now on) starts today! Legions of the city’s most stylish will descend on the David Pecaut Square tents to watch some of Canada’s best talent.
I can tell you better than anyone, your purse will become your best friend AND your worst enemy. You try to pack only the few things you need but end up taking everything but the kitchen sink. Trust me, I know. If you’re anything like me you can’t be one of those girls who only brings a teeny, tiny clutch. Instead, I bring my biggest (but hottest) bag and list all the things I can’t live without.
Here’s a few tips to make sure you spend your space wisely.
Pick your bag wisely.
When you’re choosing a purse to sling over your shoulder for the duration of the week, you’re going to want one that can handle everything you’re going to throw at it. Choose a purse with a shoulder strap as well as short handles to be hung at the elbow for those street style pics. If you’re bringing a lot of technology (phone, camera, iPod, etc) check to make sure your bag has a series of pockets for easy grabbing.
Make a list.
Trust me you don’t want to skip this one. List everything you are in desperate need of and when you pack it into your bag check it off. This is a great way to make sure you have thought out what you need to bring and aren’t just packing while in a rush to get out the door. Every time you write something down, really think if you’re going to use it. A pen? Yes. A notebook? Yes. Flat shoes? Yes. Backup sea foam green eyeliner? Probably not. Two books and a magazine in case of boredom? Absolutely not.
A place for everything and everything in its place.
The time before you leave is probably the only time you’ll have during your day to really organize your bag. Take advantage. Really try to work your puzzle-making-magic and fit everything in there as perfectly as possible. That way for the rest of the day, anytime you take something out, you’ll know it has a little spot waiting for it. Try to keep putting everything back exactly where you got it from. Your purse will be kept neat and tidy and you won’t be wasting time digging through junk trying to find a pen.
