Body Conscious + Body Bag

By Contributor on September 8, 2011

The phrase “body-conscious” can make even the most confident woman cringe. We tend to immediately sling-shot our minds back to the eighties/early nineties and think of brightly coloured bodysuits and Peg Bundy from Married with Children. Although the TV show brings back fond memories, the clothing left something to be desired. Well, it’s time to relive the infamous fashion trends of our youth. Despite many disputes, it IS possible to wear spandex in a chic way.

Many young celebs are embracing the tight silhouette look; in fact, Rihanna could be the new spokesperson for bodysuits! Form-fitting clothing is all about exuding confidence and sex appeal.  So remember, when you’re putting on your new leotard-styled top or fitted tucked-in tank, pair it off with a great set of sky high heels and embrace your curvy silhouette.

The complete opposite of flaunting your body, is hiding your shape completely. The “body bag” fashion brings back different memories from the early nineties, when Court met Kurt. Grunge was born and loose fitting jeans and oversized plaid shirts were considered the rebellious staple to most young adult’s wardrobes. However, nowadays the baggy trend is back, but with a broader meaning. A loose-fitting tee or big knit top can give off the impression of casual/relaxed chic. It can also give off a bad impression, hiding your shape completely can make one look bigger than they really are or…have people assume you’re preggers! No matter what the meaning your loose-fitting clothes take on, there still remains that rebellious, man-repeller quality in wearing clothes that leave some things to the imagination.

What look do you lean to—baggy or form-fitting? We believe in having the best of both worlds. Mixing a loose fitting tee with tight hot pants can show off your best assets while still leaving a bit to the imagination. Painted-on pants will allow you to flaunt your confident shape, while a loose flowing top will make you relax in the clothes you are wearing, which is, after all, the most important part! So, go out and relive those trends with a modern creative twist!
