Summer months only mean one thing — time to get on your bikes and ride!
Bicycles have always been our favorite summer fashion accessory, and, what better way to embrace the sunshine than ditching your car to spin around town on a chic bicyclette. Along with being the perfect accessory, bicycles are also eco-friendly and a stylish extension to your wardrobe.
Bicycles are now offered in a number of vivid colors—some have prints and bold features—much like your favorite statement dress or heels.
It’s important to think of your outfit when preparing for a bike outing, as you will inevitably encounter certain restrictions, but this does not mean to reach for the spandex. Biking can be done sans spandex! Wearing heels are a cycling faux pas, so show off a great pair of summer flats. Another big dilemma is figuring out what to do with your purse while pedaling along. Try opting for a messenger bag—this will keep your hands on the handlebars.
Try out an Urban Outfitters bike, which you can custom design—mix it up or tone it down, whatever suits your style. The colorful and elegant retro styles can be all yours starting at $399.
If you’re looking to turn some heads, try commuting through the urban streets in a Puma bicycle. Copenhagen-based bicycle company Biomega has designed five new bikes for Puma. The new bike line combines European design with US riding styles, resulting in a completely new Trans-Atlantic bike paradigm. Each of the five bikes is available in either all white, all black or tri-color options and have great features like folding and integrated handlebars, which distinguish these bikes from others on the market. This Puma collab bike does, however, come with a large price tag—prices range from $690 to $970.
For a the easy city rider, Paul Frank’s City Bike at $510, looks decidedly grown-up with a dash of his trademark quirky flair.
So why not go out and enjoy the warm summer weather?
