Cast Your Eyes On the Best Brights For Summer

By Contributor on June 16, 2011

Color is the easiest way to add chic to those basic pieces in your wardrobe. Tired of spring’s grey skies, add some sunshine to your daily dress for a little pick-me-up!

ORANGE — If you don’t think you can wear a little outrageous orange, opt for accessories like a handbag, belt, hat or shoes to punctuate your wardrobe.

BLUE — Although blue is one of those universal hues and a fool-proof fashion staple when worn properly, choosing the wrong shade of blue can happen, so one should avoid those icy-cold or pale tones. Don’t overdo the blue though—the statement blue trend worn from head-to-toe can be a bit intimidating, so break up the color with a neutral tone like white, beige or black.

RED – Lady in red couldn’t be any hotter than this summer. We love the monochrome look but if you think red on red is too hard for you opt for a red trench, skinny pant or a fierce red pout.  Red is a high-spirited color, find what works for you and just own it!

YELLOW — Oh sunshine yellow! It’s impossible to be unhappy while wearing it. Unless you select the wrong hue, in which case it’ll drain the life out of your complexion. Notorious for being impossible to pair with practically any other color, try it with other lighter/brighter colors (a simple color-blocking technique), or opt for a harsh contrast like black and yellow and you will be the talk of the town.

PINK — Pink is fun, flirty and feminine, but the way to wear pink hues this season is tailored, structured, minimalist and simple. From hot pink to honeysuckle, add summer hues to your wardrobe with a head-to-toe bright look or a bold accessory.

GREEN – Green is another hard color that can seem a bit difficult to wear, but our favorite designers have paired them with creative color combinations and other bold colors—it’s beautiful really! A wide-legged trouser is a dramatic statement when paired with a plain white tee.  Add a bit of bright to your wardrobe—the brighter the better.

BRIGHT BOLD PATTERNS — For maximum impact, try bright florals or bright, bold patterns, We’re suggesting a mash-up of colors, patterns and textures. Just have fun with it! Remember—anything goes this season as long as it is bright and beautiful. Whether you’re wearing a flirty dress, blouse or skirt, keep it minimalistic but loud, if that makes any sense. Here are some our favorite looks straight from the catwalks.
